Not insignificant other

Sometimes, after tutes on Tuesday night I drive home past the bottleshop where this guy works. Sometimes he lets me sit at his stool in front of a mini heater while he serves customers. It's ok, I want to say to them when they look at me- we've been together for years so I'm allowed to sit here. He doesn't like being mentioned on the WWW and doesn't like his picture being taken, but he IS just the funnest part of my life so I think this once he'll be ok it with.

1000 Steps

On Sunday, we had been inside for too long and I was getting cranky. So, we drove out to Dandenong to trek up the 1000 Steps.

The track was carved out in memorial of the Kokoda Trak and supposedly hundreds of people stomp up the stairs every weekend.

Due to my love of "this side of the river" I have never been to most suburbs on the far side of the yarra and Dandenong was no exception. Who knew it was so beautiful out there? Having re-read this post I now realise that Dandy is not on the other side of the river per se but merely a fair way from North Melbourne. Excuse my geographical ignorance.

Once you drive past the mega-marts (giant sized Big W, K-mart, Mitre 10) and up onto Mount Danders the scenery is pretty amazing. Yes this is a bit of an old-lady post about my love of scenic walks but all in all it was a chilled Saturday and only a 5th of a tank from North Melb.

We had Devonshire Tea in this little road side shack. 

NYC State of Mind

This post is really just for selfish reasons. To remind myself that I was in New York just months ago and therefore I do not need to go overseas at each and every uni break (when I can scrape enough clams together). I have been and it was not that long ago even though I would give my left arm to be flying there again in June. Enough dreaming.

New Zealand

This one time in 2010 I went to New Zealand with a boy and a sister. 

Yes, it was a long time ago but it was around this time of year and oh my 

I wish i could be in a van driving around NZ right now. Highly recommend. As my life right now is mostly (only) uni, streaming and sleeping I ask permission to post about slightly more exciting things I have been lucky enough to experience.

In Juneish/July we hired a colourful van for nearly a month and drove from one island to the other. We stopped where we wanted to and slept in the back (our snazzy kitchen table transformed into a bed by nightfall). It was one of the most fun trips. So laidback. So easy. NZ is a beautiful country and so easy to get around but for every hundred kiwis coming Australia-way I bet only a fraction of Aussies are trekking back to the land of fush and chups. I can't say it enough it was so cheap- and so fun and so many things that I'm not even going to list. Just go (if you can).

This big-mid-year holidays we would really love to be able to drive from Melbourne to Perth.There is just something pretty great about driving across a country. It is nothing like driving from Ballarat to Melbourne, a trip I get sick of each time I do it. Once you accept that the whole point is to just drive, you relax and it is amazing. Hopefully it will happen in July because that would be a pretty sweet way to break up the year. Come on holidays.
